BBQ on the beach
Close your eyes, listen to the waves. Now open them. A wooden boat is docked at a cove. You approach it, shake hands with the sun-kissed fisherman and jump in his boat.
It is tradition in Greece to get your fish straight from the net. You smell the sea, choose your fish - still tangled in the net - feel the effort of the man who offers you a piece of his life.
It is tradition for the men to scrub and prepare the fish in the water, crabs running towards them to get a bite of the delicacy before the waves take it away, and tiny fish jumping around in anticipation for a bite.
It is tradition for the men to prepare the fire on that same beach and slowly grill the fish while the women make sure the glasses are always filled with ouzo and the olive oil in the Greek salads glows in the sun.
It is tradition to sacrifice part of our food - the bread and cheese that is left - and offer it to Poseidon, so that he will provide for us the next day as well.
All we intend to do is honour our tradition, just like we have been doing for thousands of years, on boats, secluded beaches, and majestic coves, offering a “meze” and a glass of cool, Greek wine to those next to us.
As for the translation of meze, it can only be empirical. Join us and we will show you!
